About
We pride ourselves in everything we create
Hello, I’m David
The Pattern Factory is me, David. I live near the coast in Lincolnshire but have clients all over the United Kingdom.
In April 2018, I decided to leave my job as a senior web developer to spend more time with my (then) two-year-old daughter. The commute and working hours meant that I hardly saw her and I felt I was missing out on family life. In order to achieve a better work-life balance, I decided to work as a freelancer.
We had a second child in 2019 and working from my home office allows both children to see their dad a lot more! I’m sure if you ask my daughter she would say she sees me too much!
I am a full-stack developer, which means I am equally adept at working with databases as well as creating a single-page application using Javascript. I love making everything I do beautiful, accessible, mobile-friendly and easy to use for both my clients and their customers.
I also have an eye for the finer details of web design and the user experience. I’ve turned my passion into my business and it allows me to give more back to clients than they will have been used to. Looks and functionality are not enough… I want to give you a website that creates longterm, sustainable results for your business.
Custom Code & Design
A lot of the work I undertake is bespoke and I pride myself on building a strong relationship with my clients by listening to their requirements, dropping the technical jargon and delivering what the client actually needs.
When I started to freelance, my biggest goal was to provide a reliable service at a reasonable rate and to be honest… I feel I’m doing pretty good on all three fronts.
My clients are not tied into any long term contracts and are free to leave at any point. I do not have set prices for website builds as I need to understand your business and requirements before I can quote effectively – unlike many web design agencies who give you a set quote and keep adding costs on top once requirements are discovered.
My ethos is one of mutual respect with the goal of delivering results. A happy client will never leave and as their business grows, so does mine.
Problem Solving
I went to university to study Web Design and quickly became a senior developer. I spent a lot of my childhood searching for somewhere to fit in, and it was only when I started playing with code, I knew that was where I belong.
I love a challenge and thrive on problem-solving. I’m the guy you come to if you’ve been told “No it’s not possible” because I can assure you that most of the time, it is.
A lot of developers do not really develop at all. Coding is not the same as creating an attractive, functional website. Your business, if successful, will quickly outgrow a basic website and that’s where I come in. We’ll ensure that everything is integrated, functional and suits your requirements.
So if you’ve been told no in the past, hit a brick wall or had a development that is stuck in limbo… Get in touch. The chances are, we can get things moving again.

I work with other select freelancers
While The Pattern Factory is just me (and I’m happy to keep it that way!) there are times when a project requires more than my skill set allows. I have built up quite a network of other great freelancers in order to fulfil a project brief.
I am very picky about who I work alongside, especially when my reputation for quality and consistency is at stake. Each and every company I collaborate with is highly skilled in their chosen professions and produce the level of work and results that I’d be happy to be associated with…

What Our Clients Say
We Love Happy Clients

“I have worked with David for approximately 18 months on our website. He is a breath of fresh air in comparison to the normal industry web designers. Straight to the point, he states what will and will not work and comes up with ideas when a solution is needed.
David is a no-nonsense, quick-to-act designer. He does not over-promise and under-deliver as most designers do as they want to sell you a package.
Over the years he is the most experienced and definitely the most honest designer I have worked with.”
